Beyond business is a dialogue with those who have chosen our technologies.
Today we talk with Laure Miribel, Deputy General Manager Sales and Marketing of MPH1865, about the French company’s investment in a ProFlex 600 tissue converting line, equipped with the 100th TouchMax manufactured by Gambini. An investment which has been made necessary by their need to combine performance and sustainability, essential values of MPH1865’s new Renovelar brand.

What are the products in the Renovelar portfolio and what is their major innovation?
Renovelar’s are professional hygiene products such as kitchen towels (rolled and folded), center-feed toilet paper and coreless center-feed rolls. They are made using Gambini’s TouchMax technology, combined with the innovative 60-point DESL Evo embossing. This unique process allows the production, even at high speed, of exceptionally soft paper with an absorption capacity above the market average, while limiting the amount of fibers used. This exclusive embossing technology places Renovelar at the forefront of innovation in its sector.
How did the idea for Renovelar come about?
Renovelar was born from a simple observation: to consume better, you have to consume less, without sacrificing performance. These products are designed to encourage an intelligent “deconsumerism”, offering rolls that use less material starting from the design stage. The sheets are calibrated to the size of a hand, to avoid waste, but at the same time guaranteeing an excellent absorbency, softness and strength. An ecological and pragmatic choice, thought for an optimal use.
In which territories is it distributed and how important is it to invest in advertising campaigns?
Renovelar is currently distributed in France and, internationally, through a selected network of distributors, in the Netherlands, Switzerland and the UK. The launch was supported by a series of communication initiatives, including advertising campaigns, press conferences and targeted promotions. Our main focus was on increasing the prestige of the brand and highlighting the added value it can bring to the market.
What are the sustainability initiatives and choices?
Renovelar is the first series of professional hygiene products which monitors the carbon footprint per single sheet, for the actual use that is made of it. This approach has allowed us to reduce the impact of some products, such as kitchen rolls, by up to 29%, compared to the market average. This is an important step forward, which demonstrates our real and transparent commitment to sustainability.
TouchMax fully embraces this commitment: by managing to improve absorbency and strength, it ensures an excellent performance, despite using a smaller quantity of fibers.

Why did you choose a Gambini line and how does it contribute to Renovelar?
The collaboration with Gambini – a family-run company, just like MPH1865 – is a long-term one. We have chosen their lines (we have three of them, now that we have started our ProFlex 600) for the technological expertise, especially in high-precision embossing, essential to achieve the quality standards we envision for Renovelar. Their know-how has directly contributed to improving the physical and mechanical characteristics of our products.
What does a family-run business mean to you?
When we choose a supplier, we first check that it meets our production needs and then whether it is competitive: if it is also a family-run company, we prefer it.
The sense of family goes beyond blood ties and permeates the entire company, each team and the people involved. All together we try to work on product innovation and on the satisfaction of our customers: like us, Gambini shares these values.
You purchased our 100th TouchMax: how did you learn about this technology?
I personally saw the first TouchMax at the Gambini open house during iT’s Tissue, in 2022. I remember that I also visited their Research & Development plant, TissueHub, which houses a full-width converting pilot line, which was running for the event. Back at the company I told everyone what I had seen: a new system capable of changing embossing patterns very quickly.
We didn’t immediately take it into consideration only because it seemed more oriented towards consumer production. Then, through other comparisons, my brother found out that TouchMax had all the right features to make the most out of our DESL technology. A technology that had good absorbency and good strength, but still too little softness: with TouchMax, we managed to obtain a much softer result, while maintaining the other two characteristics!
With the launch of Renovelar, we finally started to amortize this investment.
How do you use this technology in your production?
We use TouchMax to make all Renovelar rolls. This technology takes full advantage of the potential of DESL Evo embossing, ensuring consistent quality, a high absorbency and a greater softness.
We currently use the quick change system with two rolls, one with 40 points and one with 60 points, but we are already working on a third embossing roll, in order to complete the so-called star and make the most out of this advantage, too. It is a fundamental technology to continue to innovate in an increasingly demanding market.
